WHY I WILL NEVER DRINK AGAIN

Blurred Vision

My earliest memory of having a taste of alcohol was at my aunt's birthday party. Me and my sister stuck our tongues in the bottom of champagne glasses to soak up any drops left over. We giggled so hard as we pretended to be drunk.

As a child, being around adults drinking was a daily occurrence for me. Both of my parents had 9 to 5 jobs and when they came in from their work day, they typically chose to unwind with a beer.

"Go get me a beer" was part of our daily chores. At the end of each night, the ashtrays were full of cigarette butts and beer bottle tops. Emptying them was another one of our chores.

It was only on special occasions that other types of alcohol were brought out. Waking up early after a weekend party, sucking the foam out of the keg hose was another sneaky thing my sister and I did.

I shared on a previous blog during Christmas my parents would drink hard liquor and end the night by tearing the Christmas tree down.

After my parents divorced, both of their drinking spiraled out of control. I have stories that I refuse to share because they are way too horrific in nature.

Sadly, my father died at an extremely early age from the abuse of alcohol. Although my mother didn't die from alcoholism, she used drinking as a crutch almost her entirely life.

As a teenager, I drank all the time at parties. As an adult, I drank every time we were at social events. This was not only expected from my friends but the times I refused everyone assumed I was pregnant lol.

Almost everyone in my life drinks alcohol and every event I host or I attend, alcohol is part of the festivities.

But after my 40 day fast, I realized then I would never drink alcohol again. Read my blog on "time dated intuition" to understand more on how this came about.

Some friends were considering going to a winery and I thought to myself I can go and taste test some of the wines. Later that week I had a dream. This dream was definitely from the Lord.

"In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; then he opens the ears of men and seals their instructions." - Job 33:15-18

In my dream, a bunch of friends and family were having a party and we were all drinking. The next day I went to the laundry room and saw someone had loaded the washing machine with 12 pairs of jeans, 15 towels, and about 30 shirts. I screamed to my sister "who in the world did this?" She replied, "Aimee you did this last night. Don't you remember?"

Although in my dream I wasn't drinking a lot, the little bit of alcohol that I did have was enough to blur my vision so much that I did some things that were completely out of my character and I didn't even remember doing it. When I woke up, I knew instantly that I couldn't even have "taste tests" of alcohol.

In life, there are enough problems vying for me to be distracted. Drinking is no longer one of them.

I would be lying if I said I haven't lost friends over this decision. But, I have no regrets at all. Especially considering that generational curses are a real thing and perhaps I broke the alcoholic curse for my children and my children's children.
