Learn Your Lesson The First Time

Would you believe me if I told you that once again I was nearly blinded in the shower this morning?!

This time the scenario was a little different. I was feeling a bit frustrated with various circumstances. I could feel myself mentally going into a vibration that was filled with anger, depression, resentment, disgust and a plethora of other negative emotions.

I said out loud to myself "no no no we are not doing this today!" So I stepped in the shower and I began speaking myself happy. Every negative thought that I had prior to getting in the shower I counteracted it with an opposite thought of hope.

When I got to the appreciation of my body and how it functions so perfectly, I was singing praises to my nose for the ability to smell. I grabbed the body wash and brought it about an inch away from my face so that I could inhale its delicious fragrance. As quick as a lightening strike, a burst of soap jumped into my eye.

Flushing my eye with water was not able to alleviate the burning sensation. I could barely finish my shower because I was in so much pain.

The first time this happened (written in a previous blog) the result was minor, but this time, you couldn't image how red my eye was.

I stood there and I said why do we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and over. I knew better than to put the bottle too close to my face from the first time the body wash attacked me.

Is it that we need to get burned badly enough that we don't repeat our mistakes? Why is it that we can't learn the first time.

Our greatest teacher is our mistakes, however, it seems as though we desire a tyrant style of teaching in order for us to ace the class.

There is a Proverb that I was reminded of. "As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly." - Proverbs 26:11

We are several months into the new year and how many of us have returned to our bad habits, old ways of thinking, lack and limiting beliefs, and self doubting that we swore we would change this year?

Falling off a diet, sobriety wagon or from our goals is foolish but the Bible says a "just man falls seven times but rises back up again."

I honestly believe the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing. If we purpose our lives with effort and extreme attention to learn the first time something goes astray, we can prevent the repeating of it in the future.

I can assure you with certainty, I will not be writing a third blog about body wash spitting in my eye.
