CLEAR VISION
Stay Focused No Distractions

On the eve of every new year, I go through an organized check list of things that need to be done before the clock changes and leads us into a fresh start. That's what we hope for, that is.
I do an extensive cleaning of every room in our house. I make sure all of the mirrors are cleaned to ensure I have clear vision for the upcoming year. I open the front and back door along with the windows to air out the house. I make sure to wash my hair, exfoliate, and groom from head to toe. And before I go to sleep, I put on some shimmer to shine bright.
As I'm writing this, I am lightweight laughing at myself. Despite knowing that following these "superstitions" won't bring about certain consequences, I will most likely keep on with doing them in the coming years.
The reason is simple, I thoroughly enjoy it. It brings about great joy and for that reason alone is enough to continue.
I think we can agree that cleaning our mirrors in the house will not cause clear vision for the year ahead. On the contrary, cleaning our mirrors will trigger a subconscious thought in our minds for us to focus. Focus is defined as "the state or quality of having or producing clear visual definition."
Staying focused without being distracted is advantageous. Walking away from narrow-minded pettiness and hindrances takes great fortitude.
"It's the little foxes that spoil the vine." - Song of Solomon 2:15-17
I was just in the shower (if you have been keeping up with my blogs you will know that my showers are my therapy time) and I started thinking about all of the horrible mistakes that I made last year.
I got so upset that I could feel my heart race increase, my shoulders got heavy, my eyes filled up with tears and that's when I said to myself "you can beat yourself up, go into a depression, and basically give up or you can shake it off and learn from every instance."
It is so easy for us spiral down into a ditch of despair. In my previous blog, I talk about how our thoughts need to be cultivated in order to produce an exotic flower. Weeds grow without any effort and that is the same for thoughts of hopelessness.
I had a split second to decide which direction my thoughts were going to go. Was I going to stay focused or would I allow things that I cannot change to distract me.
For over 15 years my favorite quote has been "you will either feel the pain of discipline or the pain of regret."
Time and time again I have felt the pain of regret. If only I had disciplined myself, then I wouldn't have felt regret.
When thinking about this quote, we often refer to discipline of weight loss, healthy habits or continuing education etc. But if we go deeper, we will utilize the benefits of this quote for our minds.
Disciplining our thoughts is how to be in the elite 5%. That leaves 95% of people that do not.
That's a huge gap.
These numbers can be substantiated by any given scenario. Walk into a shopping center and I guarantee only 5% of the people there will be calm, cheerful and successful. In a future blog, I will discuss my definition of "successful."
For the purposes of this blog, it is my hope that we will clearly define our goals and we will stay focused.
No one wants to feel the pain of regret. No one wants to get so far off track that we lose sight of the vision.
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. Ask the Almighty for grace to stay disciplined.
