A Guide To Cancel Autopilot

Be the architect of your mind

I just got out of the shower and I said to myself "did I forget to shave?"

Thanks to my genetics, I am an unusually hairy woman so I have to shave my entire body every day and by the end of the day some parts look as if I didn't even groom. Shaving each day for me is task that I have narrowed down to under 2 minutes. In which I never miss a day, I might add.

Today when I had to double check after my shower if I indeed shaved, the thought dawned on me that many of our daily routines we do on "autopilot." In other words, we do it without even thinking. We have mastered a skill, through repetition, so many times that we can do it "blind folded" or "in our sleep."

I explain in my ebook "Do Words Teach?" that I am a creature of habit. I typically go through my day with a very specific schedule.

I go to sleep on the same side of the bed, I get out of bed the same way each morning, I start my entire day and end my entire day just about the same way every time. Even when I'm on vacation, I generally stay with the same routine. So change for me is a bit more complicated than it can be for others.

Being on autopilot in the shower is harmless for me because it allows me to focus on other thoughts simultaneously. Multitasking at its finest. (Side note: the shower for me is like my therapy time with the Lord, it's extremely therapeutic and it is kind of like my reset button. So if anyone ever wanted to disrupt my life completely, take away my showers haha also high thread count sheets oh and a fan while I sleep smh I just realized how absurd I am)

But being on autopilot with our thoughts is ill-advised, unwise, and foolish. Why is it so careless to allow our thoughts to be on autopilot? Because it takes extreme measures to disregard negative, fearful, stressful thoughts.

Negative thoughts are like weeds. Weeds in a garden grow effortlessly. They don't require special fertilization, soil, water or sunlight. So being negative, bitter, angry, depressed, unforgiving, living worried etc. takes no effort at all. It will come naturally and easily with life.

But exotic flowers in a garden require proper care, time, the right amount of water, light, and special fertilization. Being positive with our thoughts, hopeful, patient, appreciative, and understanding, that takes an extreme amount of cultivation.

Waking each day living life sad, depressed, wishing your past was different, regretting reckless decisions, angry at those who betrayed you, frustrated with the slow driver ahead of you will cause sickness in your mind and eventually your body.

When we stress our bodies are producing the same hormonal affect as if we are being chased by a lion. Living constantly like this weakens our immune systems and eventually causes complications in our bodies.

We are meant to be exotic flowers. We are the architects of our minds. We are God's highest form of creation and we have dominion.

What differentiates us from a pig or a dog is our minds. We have dominion and control over our thoughts. We can decide what thoughts we allow to stay.

We may not be able to control a thought from popping up but what we can control is how long it stays. We are unable to control a bird from flying over our heads but we can control the bird from landing and making a nest on top of our heads.

And when a bird starts to make its nest, it will bring more and more sticks, grass and debris. So allowing the first negative thought to stay will guarantee more to follow. Eventually the bird will find a lit cigarette and bring back to its nest only to burn the entire structure to the ground.

Becoming the architect of your mind, aviating through life without turbulence, is a transformative journey that allows you to shape your thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. It is a conscious effort to take control of your mental landscape, allowing you to design a life that aligns with your true desires and goals.

This is the first nail that is put in place. As you become the architect of your mind, you gain the power to create new pathways of thinking, leading to personal growth and fulfillment. It is a journey of self-discovery and self-mastery, where you are no longer a passive observer of your thoughts, but an active participant in shaping the narrative of your life.
