SOLITUDE
The Gateway To Power
4/23/20252 min read
Years ago I wrote a poem to the Lord and one of the lines said "parched yet water all around..."
How is it possible to be thirsty with a gallon of water sitting at your table?
In the same manner, you can be in a room full of people but still be lonely. You can have company all around but still be desolate.
The phrase "self care" went viral years ago and I still hear it periodically. I think it is commonly confused with self indulgence or selfishness.
But I don't necessarily believe either one of those are a bad thing. I actually substantiate being selfish at times as well as being self indulgent. Both are compulsory in moderation.
Self-care is actually something that needs to be a daily practice for everyone including children.
Caring about your emotional state, your well being, your feelings, your attention, (I literally could go on for days) is of the utmost importance.
In fact, if ignored the results could be catastrophic.
Jesus Himself had to leave His disciples and the multitude to go into a deserted place. He understood the mandatory call of solitude.
Solitude is not optional. It is a prerequisite for power.
Although it is not always preferable or comfortable it is rewarding. The benefits far outweigh the uneasiness of being alone.
To further complicate things, not every person in your life will understand your need to periodically incorporate solitude.
You may have resistance that will influence your decision.
Your own thoughts could be your biggest defiance.
After all, who really wants to be alone?
Unless you are hurt by others, easily annoyed and you have shut off all communications out of depression, anger, betrayal or abuse.
In this instance, I highly urge you to seek professional help to aid in helping you get out of this dark place.
Otherwise, allow me to offer some helpful tips to alleviate any concerns.
Solitude can happen on your lunch break. Instead of going with friends, or spending your hour on social media, you can go off alone to refresh yourself.
Skip a workout session with your partner and do it partnerless.
Go to dinner unescorted. Take a walk without your children or your spouse.
Do something unaccompanied that you typically would do with others.
Once you master this, you will be able to enjoy being alone in your thoughts. The seclusion will be refreshing.
Your thirst will be quenched. The isolation you once felt will no longer feel like separation. You will have a deeper sense of connection that you didn't feel before. More appreciation for the simplicity of life.
The gateway to power is found through being alone. Taking time away from the tasks at hand, the obstacles, the conflict, the distractions, will give you the strength you need to persevere.
