PERSISTENCE
Maintaining Focus

If I were to be completely honest with you, persistence is probably the weaker of my attributes.
I am results driven. I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor. When I don't, I tend to give up easily. I think this is why my weight fluctuates more often than not.
When I go to the gym regularly and I eat fairly healthy, I expect to see results in my body. Don't we all expect this? Am I being unreasonable?
If the results of my expectation don't arrive quickly enough, the level of frustration is so much so that I consequently indulge in a doughnut or two. Ok maybe I am exaggerating. Three doughnuts to be exact lol.
After I throw my hands up in despair, I quickly feel the heaviness of regret. Is this some form of self-sabotage? Am I my own worst enemy?
I'm not only referring to my weight in this regard. I can recount times in continuing my education I felt this same feeling of defeat. Again in my business, not seeing the sales I hoped for makes me second guess every decision I made. I can literally reference almost every area of my life and this does not exclude my prayer life.
I recently heard something that was an instant revelation, a glimmer of light, and simultaneously a smack in the head.
"Persistence is faith."
Why hadn't I ever looked at it in this aspect? As believers, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. But I never put persistence into this equation.
If you are not a believer in the Divine then your faith has to be self-reliant. In my opinion, that's a heavy burden to carry but we each have free will to believe how we want.
Being firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition is the literal definition of persistence.
Understanding that if we continue, one foot in front of the other, eventually we will attain that which we desire.
If we get off course for a moment, don't throw in the towel and quit. Shake it off, stand up and get back on the track.
When we sew seeds in the ground, how foolish it would be to dig them up before they produce fruit. Our faith is in the seed, knowing that once we planted and nourished it, fruit will produce in a matter of time.
Our made up, determined minds are the seeds. Planting and nourishing them is taking action. If we stay continuant, (despite difficulty or opposition) we will have a harvest.
This is persistence. This is faith. Complete trust. Full confidence.
Remind yourself why you started in the first place. Take yourself to a place of peace in your thoughts and ignite the flame of passion and desire. This will help aid you in strength and tenacity.
