PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE
How To Go With The Flow

Have you ever just stared at the ocean and watched the waves?
Even if you haven't had the privilege to do this in person, I highly suggest turning on a live stream video and just get lost in its splendor.
Rain is always my "go-to" prior to going to sleep but occasionally I enjoy the ocean waves. It's extremely therapeutic and relaxing for me.
The last time I was at the beach, I got lost in thought and started to think about the effort and strength it would take to swim against the current.
Even the avid swimmer would tire out quickly in doing so.
However, on the contrary, the ease and effortlessness that relaxing and going with the flow, the least of all swimmers could do.
If we truly understand the comparison between swimming up stream or against the current with going with the flow, why do we constantly do it? And we do it in almost every aspect of our lives.
I know that every time I subject myself to a true crime documentary that I'm going to be bothered for weeks so why in the world do I keep doing it?
It's almost like I say to myself, "oh let me just see how far I swim against this current!!! I think this time I'll make it to the other side."
Each time, I tire out within seconds and the repercussions are long lasting.
This is a minuscule example but it is one that I continuously do.
A better example and transparency is when I get ahead of myself. My impatience will cause doubt, fear, hesitation, anxiety, depression and hopelessness.
When a swimming instructor is teaching one to float, the main principle is to relax. A tense body is unable to.
If I stopped trying to exhaust myself to stay afloat and just relax, my life would be so much less complicated.
When we want something so badly that we notice its absence, we are not relaxed. We certainly are not going with the flow and I would venture to say that we are worn out and fatigued from trying to make it happen.
And I guarantee that our face shows it. We will look tired and worn down no matter how much sleep we get, water we drink, and exercise we commit to.
There comes a point in each one of our lives that it is imperative we find the path of least resistance.
That includes relinquishing our time frame. Which is probably one of the harder things for me to do.
If being around a certain person brings out the worst in you, or leaves you feeling subpar when you leave their presence, your path of least resistance is to limit your interactions. If at all possible, completely cut them off.
If it's the crowded grocery store, your path of least resistance is to order online, delivery, pick-up or go at a different time of day. (side note: I keep using this example hoping that one of my siblings finally gets it haha)
If it's a mounding pile of laundry, commit to one pile a day. Once caught up, designate a specific day for certain loads.
The same applies to disorganized items throughout your house or work space.
There are so many paths of least resistance that we can choose deliberately.
And if you can't change your situation, change how you look at it.
It is our promise from God that He will lead us by the still waters. That is the "golden river of life."
And water always flows according the path of least resistance.
Now, "go with the flow" gives us a better understanding.
Peace, tranquility, effortlessness, ease and grace are ours for the taking.
