HURDLES OR ROAD BLOCK
Discernment Is Crucial

Ask any person that has started a company if everything was smooth sailing and they will have story after story to tell of the many trials they faced in the process.
This is proven to be true with not only opening a new business, but with most anything that requires effort.
When effort is required for a successful outcome, the guarantee of obstacles is unavoidable.
This is when determination, perseverance, discipline and flat out stubbornness is vital.
You have to be insistent, dead-set on the end before you even get started. Otherwise, the first sign of difficulty, you will give up.
It is of my opinion that the "church" overly uses "the Lord's will" as a crutch when things aren't going smooth.
But not necessarily only the Christian church but also other religious sectors use "God's will" or "if God be willing..." as their indicator when things are turbulent.
"Oh, maybe it's just not in God's will that this isn't working out..."
I believe that sometimes relying on this when we face obstacles is not only bad advice but it is contradictory towards the Word of God.
There are countless Scripture to substantiate my claim, the most notorious being "the narrow gate and difficult way, few find it... - Matthew 7:13-14"
No where in that verse does it say life is without obstacles.
I'm sharing these thoughts with you today because of a new business that we are in the process of literally starting from the ground up. In fact, it was a vacant lot, over taken by debris, vegetation and garbage.
So in order for us to get started we had to prepare the land for construction. That is when the impediments began...
At every single turn we encountered a different stumbling block. To name them all would take me all day, so believe me when I say, EVERY turn we encountered interference.
Which lead me to this - HURDLES or ROADBLOCKS.
Are these "hurdles" that we need to jump over?
And if so, we need to figure out how high we need to jump, how fast we need to run etc. in order to get over them.
We need to understand the different variable that are essential for us to get over these.
Figuring out how to get over a hurdle can become a bit complicated especially if they are extremely high and we don't necessarily have enough momentum going.
However, they are not impossible to get over, nor should we give up on the attempt.
A "road block," on the other hand, is something that is designed to keep us from impending danger.
If we continue, without heeding the warning, things can become devastating and sometimes catastrophic.
Road blocks are developed as deterrent to keep us safe. They are never meant to be ignored.
If we do, we will soon find out the repercussions.
So, my question is "how do we know the difference?"
And the answer is "discernment."
A gut feeling, intuition, an inner knowing - call it what you want but it's our God given instinct that we all need to tap into.
This is a skill that needs to be developed. Much like a muscle, without stimulation, cannot grow.
In order to build this "muscle" we need to spend time learning it, recognizing its voice, paying attention to its gentle nudges.
And furthermore, not going against it when we are enlightened.
My encouragement for you is to start today by asking the Lord to increase your discernment with little things, small insignificant things.
Little by little, this "muscle" will grow and soon you will clearly know the difference between hurdles and roadblocks.
