Feel Better On Purpose

Do you want the quickest, fastest and most effective solution to enjoying every day life?

No, this is not a rhetorical question. This question that I ask is one that each of us have to answer and not only answer with our mouths but answer from a place of honesty.

Growing up in a dysfunctional environment, sometimes the answer is not as clear cut as one would think.

"Misery loves company" is deeper and more powerful than we give it credit.

I was having a conversation the other day and we were talking about how we go through these ups and downs.

A better way to say it is, we go balls to the wall hardcore or we completely go off track and fall so far backward.

During the discussion we talked about "self sabotage."

This behavior or thought pattern can sometimes be involuntary or unconscious. We might not even understand or recognize when we are under its grip.

It's not purposed or even intentional and certainly not sought after. In fact, it's revolting.

I get so disgusted and upset with myself each time I let it happen. So why in the world would I continue to let myself fall victim to it?

Could it be that sometimes we have a deep rooted belief system that always expects things to fall apart, or there's never enough and we are suffocated by lack and limitations, or things are going so great that we are nervously waiting for the bottom to fall out.

This is the bondage that is generational and/or social (sometimes both) and we are subjected to its influence.

The only way to break these detrimental patterns is by being aware of their existence.

It is foolish for us to place a happy sticker over our gas gage because we don't want to see it on empty. We only know that we are running out of fuel, is by the indicator.

Being aware is the first step to refueling.

However, when we are on the opposite end of happiness we don't have access to instantaneous exuberance.

We barely have access to a smile.

But we will have access to a better feeling thought above the one we are in the midst of.

From there, we can begin our ascent up the emotional scale.

After grasping for a better feeling thought, we can be deliberate and intentional. It's like finding leverage to pull ourselves up out of quick sand.

One of my favorite and somewhat most overlooked stories in the Bible is when apostle Paul was falsely accused of a crime, imprisoned, and awaiting the death penalty that he said this:

"I think myself happy..."

No matter the situation or circumstance, we have this ability.

We understand the value in the scripture "whatever things are pure, lovely, and of a good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy - think on these things. Philippians 4:8"

That is clear instructions on how to reverse the downward spiral into negative emotions.

We have to break free from self sabotaging limiting beliefs that dictate our existence. We can be calculated and concise with our thoughts.

Sometimes "misery loves company" could very well be that you are the miserable one and you are keeping yourself in that space.

We can break these generational curses and limited beliefs and live the life that we are designed to. And thoroughly enjoy every day life!
