COOL, CALM AND COLLECTED
Never Let Them See You Sweat

"Blessed are the flexible - for they shall never get bent out of shape."
I watched a documentary on the people who live the longest in all of the world. One of the fascinating common denominators between them is not their nutrition, like one would think. But it's their strength and agility.
The elderly community are able to kneel down, sit in "Indian style" seating, squat and easily get up off of the floor.
Because of this, according to the information presented in the documentary, they live the longest and healthiest out of the rest of the world's population.
I taught a class years ago where we did full body stretching, deep breathing, and muscle relaxation.
Every participant, ranging in ages of early 20s to late 80s, attested to the fact of having better quality of sleep the day we had the class. Along with a plethora of other benefits including better attitudes.
I know this to be true because I experienced the same.
Circumstances caused me to stop teaching and as time passed, I found myself not as flexible that I once was. In more than one area of my life.
One of the biggest contributors that I found myself getting all bent out of shape over is when unexpected circumstances arise.
I've said this many times that I am a creature of habit and a planner. I carefully and precisely plan out most of the details of my life.
I have to work harder than some to stay serene when things go against my ideal outcome.
Many blogs ago, I told you that one day I would share some experiences that I've had that put a lot of things in perspective for me.
I was at the gas station waiting in my car to meet someone and I was fairly early so I was reading a book and people watching (one of my favorite pastimes lol.)
I watched a woman in her car talking on the phone. She had the phone up to her ear and she was extremely focused on her conversation.
So much so that she didn't realize she was parked next to a sweet, sticky substance that was spilled all over the concrete. I watched as every bee in a four mile radius came to get a taste.
Slowly but surely, after getting a drink the bees began to make their way up to her open window.
One by one, they flew into her car and circled around her face. I don't think I've ever exercised enough self-control to refrain from screaming "be careful the bees are in your car!!!"
But I watched intently and this lady was unbothered. She could care less about the bees in her car, in her face, circling around her.
She was studious and attentive to her conversation. Focused. Unbothered. Cool, calm and collected.
She did not let the bees see her sweat. She gracefully moved her hand if they got too close to her mouth or eyes as she continued with her phone call.
Had it been me, I would have screamed profanities, yelled to the top of my lungs, ran out of my car across the parking lot, flipped my shirt up and inside out, acting a complete fool.
I said to myself, "that is how I want to live life."
I refer back to this often. I remind myself that I can be that person who is flexible, agile and pliable in life. I also can remain unbothered, peaceful and undisturbed when situations or circumstances get all up in my face baiting me for confrontation.
I have to stay focused with no distractions.
And as I reflect back on the lady that taught me an invaluable lesson, I am reminded of her smiling, laughing and enjoying her life.
