How to Stay Hopeful

How many times have you or someone you've been around say these words "well let's hope so..., or I certainly hope it happens?"

When we "hope" that something happens, is that luck of the draw? Is it heads or tails? And if we toss the coin enough times we are bound to land on the one we hoped for. If that is the case, how does it feel when what we've hoped for doesn't happen?

Proverbs 13:12 says "Hope deferred makes the heart sick."

One translation elaborates by saying "the dream that seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing."

I think I've told you I am results driven and if I don't see results quick enough, I want to throw in the towel.

Which by the way, I have done countless times. Then I feel regret, frustration and disgust with myself.

One of my favorite quotes is "you will either feel the pain of discipline or the pain of regret." I have felt the pain of regret more times than I can remember.

So I decided years ago that I would discipline myself and feel that temporary pain rather than the pain of giving up.

Both are hard but the choice is ours to make.

Disciplining yourself to get certain results is rewarding if you persevere, however, hoping for a desired outcome when it's completely out of your hands often times require a little more than discipline and perseverance.

There is a supernatural element involved and it is laid out in the rule book of life.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for..."

Substance by definition is "the most important or essential part of something; the real or essential meaning."

"Without faith it is impossible to please God." - Hebrews 11:6

Let's continue with the above Scripture reference. "...Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

So basically if we could see it with our natural eyes then we wouldn't need faith.

If I knew that on xx-xx-xxxx date my prayer would be answered then I wouldn't need to hope. I wouldn't really even need faith. Most likely, I wouldn't even need the Divine to assist.

Pretty much, I could then be a deity. I would just need a little patience to wait until the set time.

I am confident that you can tell I am being facetious. I'm trying to make my point of why it is important for us to understand this supernatural principle that is deeper than "hoping or wishing."

Let's finish the above Scripture reference. "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible." - Hebrews 11:1-6

If you are feeling disappointment, frustration, fear, or fatigue because things are not happening quick enough remember this verse.

We quote half Scriptures often and I even did in this blog. So allow me to finish the reference in full.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
